B. neben der ursprünglichen Cola noch über zehn weitere Sorten an, Starbucks brüstet sich damit über 19.000 Getränkevariationen anzubieten und die Amerikaner haben über 400.000 Pensionspläne, aus denen sie wählen können. Der Tatsache, dass die Entscheidungsfreiheit als grundlegendes Menschenrecht und als Ausdruck des freien Willens angesehen wird, ist es wohl geschuldet, dass die meisten Menschen den endlosen Wunsch nach Entscheidungen hegen. So vertraten auch Wissenschaftler lange die Meinung, dass mehr Möglichkeiten besser sind, doch viele empirische Untersuchungen des letzten Jahrzehnts beweisen das Gegenteil. Große Sortimente bzw. eine große Auswahl von Alternativen können destructive Auswirkungen auf den Konsumenten haben.
